Geothermal Energy
Clean, Competitive, Dependable Power.
Origin partners with Rodatherm Energy Corporation to advance waterless geothermal technology for Indigenous, rural, and remote communities across Canada.
Our Technology Partner
Rodatherm Energy Corporation
Rodatherm is the developer of a patented Waterless Geothermal System (WGS) — a cased, pressurized heat recovery system placed in deep porous rock. The technology is designed to deliver clean, baseload power and district heating to communities that have historically relied on diesel and fossil fuels.
Rodatherm closed an oversubscribed $38M Series A in August 2025 — the largest geothermal founding raise to date — and is currently developing its first commercial demonstration in Central Utah (100 MW project), with initial power results scheduled for Q4 2026.

The Technology
A "heat pump" at depth.
The WGS is a fully sealed, closed-loop system that circulates an organic working fluid underground to capture geothermal heat. No water is extracted. No fracking is required. The system is designed to be scalable, repeatable, and deployable in a wide range of geologies, including western Canada.
Clean
No freshwater. No emissions.
The Waterless Geothermal System (WGS) requires no freshwater and uses an organic working fluid with a global warming potential of just 3.0. Nothing is extracted from the ground — only heat is borrowed and returned.
Competitive
Baseload power at competitive cost.
The WGS delivers reliable baseload and dispatchable power with exceptionally low operating costs and a 50+ year operating life. It is capable of combining with district heating needs.
Dependable
A cased, pressurized heat recovery system.
Placed in deep porous rock, the system is 50% more efficient than binary geothermal systems. Its repeatable design means a small surface footprint and proven, bankable technology.
Why This Matters
Baseload energy for communities that have been left behind by the grid.
Many Indigenous, rural, and remote communities in Canada depend on diesel for heat and power — a fuel that is expensive, carbon-intensive, and subject to supply disruptions. Geothermal energy changes that equation permanently.
Unlike solar or wind, geothermal is not intermittent. It produces steady, reliable power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of weather or season. For communities where energy security is a matter of safety and economic survival, that reliability is essential.
The WGS can also be combined with district heating systems, allowing a single geothermal source to serve schools, health centres, housing, and community facilities — replacing diesel and reducing operating costs for decades.
No freshwater requirements
The system uses a sealed loop. No aquifer contact, no water extraction — suitable for communities where water security is a priority.
Small surface footprint
The repeatable PAD-based design keeps the surface footprint minimal, reducing land impact and making it suitable for communities near sensitive environments.
Bankable and proven
The technology uses known process engineering and has been vetted by leading global engineering firms. It is designed to attract infrastructure-level financing.
Baseload and dispatchable
Unlike solar and wind, the WGS can deliver power on demand — making it a reliable anchor for community energy systems.
